5 Tips For Surviving Rainy Wedding Day

How exciting! Not only have to got your dream lover dressed, ready and just as excited to pledge his or her undying love to you as you are to them. All your loved ones have started to arrive and gather for the ceremony, then you hear it… A subtle rumble in the air, the clouds thicken then just when you thought you couldn’t be more nervous, it happens. You feel one single rain drop gently land on your hand. Uh – oh.

At this point it’s easy to let your emotions run away. But rest assured, there is no need to panic. You know, sometimes we can plan things so well, down to the last detail, but there are some things that are out of your control. The weather is one of those variables that are out of our hands.

I am happy to say that Bel Amour Wedding Photography seem to be a good luck charm in this area. No matter how bad the weather looks on the day, the rain seems to vanish when we need it to (touch wood). But in the event that the rain has it’s way and persists, it’s smart to be prepared.

Here’s a few things to remember:

1. Umbrellas

This may sound obvious, but it’s an easy one to overlook, especially when you are thinking about so many other things. And if you have time, speak to your photographer and ask about what colour umbrellas to use. Get creative and also get enough for the entire bridal party. They will make very cool photographs.

It’s also great to get a different colour for the newlyweds.

2. A ‘Backup’ Under Cover Venue

This is smart. If you have your heart set on having an outdoor wedding, at least ask the venue if there is a plan ‘B’ in case it rains. A lot of venues can accomodate that, so it’s best to be prepared.

3. A Quick Change

Depending on how adventurous you are, or how organised you are, getting out in the rain for some epic romantic shots could be on the cards. Although, I would suggest, if you have enough notice, maybe get a cheap mock wedding dress and suit. Something you don’t mind getting trashed. I have seen some AMAZING photos of brides in the rain, or in water. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but hey, if you’re game, then we’re up for it. I guarantee no-one you know will have more unique photos from there wedding day. Oh, and bring a spare pair of shoes.

4. Cover The Reception

Outdoor receptions can be absolutely magical. Dinner under the stars, with some strung fairy lights and let’s not forget the first dance in the open evening air just after twilight. So beautiful. But the rain could definitely have an impact on dinner if precautions haven’t been taken. Speak to your caterers about the possibility of rain and make sure your food can be kept safe.

5. Smile

At the end of it all, you will walk away from your wedding day having fused 2 lives in to one. You will have successfully navigated your way through ‘day one’ of the rest of your life, and no matter what happens, just take a look beside you. There will be a person is standing there, braving the elements, shivering and looking right back at you. That’s what this is all about, so don’t let the rain take that away and I promise you in 5 years, you will both be laughing about it. This seemingly catastrophic event will give you an awesome story to tell at dinner parties and while you tell the story, you will once again look across the table at your closest companion and greatest love and remember how much you love them, how amazing it is to be married and that you got to share that completely crazy, unique moment with each other. Because at that moment, you will be able to see that no matter how bad the weather is, they will stand by you.

So enjoy the rain, they are a million happy tears just for you.
